Just a brief plug for an upcoming cultural event. For any readers in southern California: the 15th annual Angelus Awards Student Film Festival is coming up next weekend: Saturday, September 18, at the Director’s Guild of America in Hollywood. More details here. I strongly encourage you to attend. It’s a great opportunity to see films and meet young filmmakers who are mastering the craft of visual storytelling and who have stories to tell that explore human experience with respect, compassion and hope.
Several years ago, I worked for Family Theater Productions, the non-profit that underwrites and produces this endeavor every year. And for a couple of years, I had the chance to serve as a first- and second-round juror for the student films submitted from around the world. I can say with confidence it is one of the best events happening to encourage the next generation of filmmakers… a truly forward-looking endeavor on the part of a Catholic non-profit in the heart of the entertainment industry.
